The work of Professor Li mainly focuses on numerical and intelligent control technology, NC machine tool and advanced LED equipment design and manufacturing. The scope of his research convers the NC technology, equipment design, manufacturing technique, and the cross field of optical, mechanical and electrical engineering. In the last five years, he joined in and conducted many National Basic Research Programs (973 Program), programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), projects supported by the National Defense Pre-Research Foundation of China, two projects supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) and National 04 Critical Technology Project. He has published more than 40 papers and has applied 30 more patents (more than 10 patents granted). He also sketched the technology outline of intelligent manufacturing equipment, part of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Outline of China For 2010 ~ 2030 (Mechanical Engineering Society of China).
Professor Li makes lots of effort in fundamental research. For example, his team carried out deep research on the problem of structural dynamics and intelligent control of heavy NC machine tool, and then made a number of key progress which provided general support for the design and manufacturing of advanced NC equipment, especially heavy mechanical equipment. The related programs are “The research on the dynamic behavior and precisely control of high speed NC machine tool” (part of a 973 Program), “The research on the mechanism of unstable cutting of multi-axis machining and the optimization of control quality of complicated workpiece with great strength”. Based on his progress in fundamental research, Li has designed and produced many advanced manufacturing equipment in critical demand.
Professor Li also pays much attention on his teaching courses and transformed much of his research progress to teaching resource. He published many books, such as Digital Machining Technology, Numerical Control Technology, NC Machine Tool, and Manual Of Mechanical Manufacturing.
