At 4:00 pm on November 2nd, the first XPLORER PRIZE awarding ceremony was held in Beijing. 50 winners of young scientific and technical workers and a number of famous scientists at home and abroad gathered to witness the moment of glory. Each winner would get a bonus of 3 million RMB in the next 5 years provided by the Tencent Foundation.
Prof. Gao Liang from MSE of HUST won a prize in the “Advanced Manufacturing” field by his research on “Topology Optimization Based Digital Design”. Li Peigen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, presented awards for winners of the “Advanced Manufacturing” field. Prof. Gao was the only winner from HUST. The prize aimed to affirm his achievements in the area of topology optimization based digital design, and encouraged him to use IGA-based topology optimization method to explore and realize the integration of CAD, CAE and Topology Optimization.
Introduction of Tencent XPLORER PRIZE
The XPLORER PRIZE is a joint initiative by Mr. Ma Huateng, Chair and CEO of Tencent Board of Directors, and 14 scientists in the year 2018 when Tencent has been run for 20 years. It aimed to commend young scientific and technical workers in the field of basic sciences and leading technologies who are under 45 and work for full time in Chinese Mainland.
According to the management committee of the XPLORER PRIZE, there were 1335 scientific and technical workers applied for the prize in 2019, and 50 were awarded after 4 rounds of evaluations and reviews.
