On December 7, under the initiative of Academician Xiong Youlun, the 1st "Robotics Teaching Seminar" was held in Wuhan. The seminar was co-hosted by the Robot Branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, MSE of HUST, and the National Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology. 46 representatives from 15 universities attended the conference.
At the seminar, Academician Ding Han of HUST made a speech on behalf of MSE. In the morning, Professor Huang Tian of Tianjin University presided the seminar. Professor Yang Wenyu of HUST, Professor Xiong Zhenhua of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Zhuang Yan of Dalian University of Technology and Professor Chen Xiaoping of China University of Science and Technology respectively introduced the experience, teaching characteristics and practice of personnel training of robotics course construction in each university in their report. Then, under the chairmanship of Professor Han Jianda of Nankai University, all the participants exchanged views on and discussed relevant issues about the establishment of the Robotics Teaching Research Association.
In the afternoon, Professor Wang Shuting of HUST chaired the seminar. Academician Xiong Youlun, Professor Yang Wenyu and Associate Professor Yang Hua of HUST respectively talked about their understanding about "robotics" and introduced the supporting handouts for the textbook robotics. In addition, the participants exchanged views on teaching textbooks compilation of robotics and the innovative personnel training program of the mechanical discipline, discussed the basic, forward-looking and comprehensive characteristics of robotics extensively and in-depth, forming a consensus on the important role of robotics in the construction of first-class courses and personnel training.
After discussion, the participants agreed unanimously to establish the "China Robotics Teaching and Research Association" (the Association), with MES of HUST as the president unit, and vice president units such as Tianjin University, Nankai University, China University of Science and Technology, Central South University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Guangdong University of Technology, Dalian University of Technology and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tsinghua University, Chongqing University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, etc.
Wang Shuting, Vice Dean of MSE, on behalf of the supporting units of the Association, said that these units would work together with other universities to promote the organization of the Association.
The successful holding of the seminar has laid an important foundation for promoting the construction of robotics courses and forming a first-class discipline and course teaching exchange platform.
