On December 27, the Mechanical Engineering Sub-forum of the 8th (2019) International Young Scholars East Lake Forum was successfully held in MSE, HUST. This is one of the important academic activities held by MSE every year. This year's Forum gathered 14 outstanding young scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, Switzerland and Hong Kong, who exchanged ideas of the international frontier scientific and technological hot research topics.
On the morning of December 27, the sub-forum meeting was held in Room A304. Shi Tielin, Secretary of the Party Committee of MSE delivered a welcome speech. Zhang Fen, Vice Dean of MSE, introduced basic information, achievements in some aspects in recent years of MSE and various supporting policies of HUST and MSE for young talents. Zhang Fen expressed the hope that this forum could promote exchanges between scholars at home and abroad as well as enhance mutual understanding and cooperation. Zhang welcomed these young scholars to join in MSE. The sub-forum was chaired by Professor Ye Chang.
6 young scholars made wonderful reports at the meeting, whose topics covered intelligent transportation, high-power laser welding, backfill friction stir spot welding, advanced micro-nano processing technology, nano-flow control system, nonlinear dynamics and control, etc. In the Q & A period, teachers and students and these scholars had a warm exchange and discussion. At last, Xu Jianfeng, Vice Dean of MSE, introduced the general situation of the discipline development and shared his personal experience. Other invited scholars also carried out academic exchanges with research teams of MSE in related fields during the forum.
On the afternoon of December 26, these scholars visited the Engineering Practice Innovation Center, the National Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, the Precision Measurement Laboratory and the Micro-nano Processing and Measurement Laboratory.
The International Young Scholars East Lake Forum, by holding special reports, academic discussions and talent negotiations, has built a good exchange platform for young talents in different disciplines at home and abroad. It not only expanded the influence of MSE at home and abroad, but also attracted many outstanding young scholars to pay attention to MSE, which helped promoting the talent introduction of the school.
