Due to the need of prevention and control of COVID-19, some retired teachers and staffs with chronic disease on the campus bothered about the lack of drugs. Therefore, MSE launched the notice on recruiting volunteers on February 5 to help solve difficulties for people in need, especially the aged people who lived alone and were disabled in action, etc., so that they can feel the care and warmth from the school.
Once the notice was issued, many teachers and students of MSE applied for it. After careful consideration and screening, Prof. Tao Bo of the National Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Ms. Li Xiqiu of the Department of Mechanical Design and Automotive Engineering, and Chen Pengfei (a graduate student of Class 1709 who stayed on the campus during the winter vacation) were selected as a volunteer service team. The school provided them with necessary protective materials such as medical masks. It is worth mentioning that Prof. Tao Bo, BS' 95 of MSE, also actively participated in relevant work of several batches of material donations by MSE alumni. Volunteers helped the elderly purchase medicine they needed and sent the medicine to their houses, which greatly solved their difficulties in drug purchasing.
On February 6, when the battle against COVID-19 came to a critical juncture, HUST decided to set up a party member commando. Teachers and staffs of MSE actively applied for it. After selection, MSE Associate Prof. Huang Jinguo, He Songping and Zhu Bihai, joined the commando. Under the unified leadership of the university, the three teachers will help for the implementation of prevention and control on the campus.
Under the current intense situation, there are still teachers and students volunteering to contribute for those in need. It takes courage to make such a decision. Such fearlessness will also inspire all people. Spring is not far away. We can overcome the difficulties together!
