On November 18, Clarivate Analytics released the “Highly Cited Researcher 2020” List, and 6167 researchers from more than 60 countries in the list. HUST ranked 14th among all universities in Chinese mainland, with a total of 13 scholars selected. 2 scholars of MSE, HUST were in the list, namely Prof. Gao Liang in the category of Cross-Field and Associate Prof. Li Li in the category of Engineering.
The “Highly Cited Researcher 2020” List, based on the number of highly-cited papers published in the 11 years from January of 2009 to December 12 of 2019, selected more than 6000 researchers in the 21 fields of natural sciences and social sciences, or across several fields. Scholars in the list all published multiple highly-cited papers in the past 10 years that ranked in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science™，demonstrating their significant academic influence in their field.
Chinese mainland ranked second in the list in 2020, with 770 Highly Cited Researchers, or 12.1%, up from 636 and 10.2% last year, when it replaced the United Kingdom as the second. China’s high investment in scientific research in the past 20 years is bearing fruit, publishing a number of highly-cited or high-impact papers, enhancing international cooperation, and transforming research results into intellectual properties as well as scientific and technological innovations.
