On the afternoon of April 20, HUST held the defense meeting for a new batch of Demonstration Student Innovation Teams. In the end, 3 teams including MSE ChinaMaker Team of Flexible Electronics were elected.

The ChinaMaker Team of Flexible Electronics was built with the support of School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, the State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology and HUST Flexible Electronics Research Center. Prof. Huang Yong’an, Associate Prof. Duan Yongqing and Lecturer Ye Dong were advisers of the team, with Associate Prof. Duan Yongqing and doctoral student Wu Hao taking charge of daily work. Guided by cutting-edge scientific problems on flexible electronics, the team aimed to improve undergraduates’ innovation spirit and help some of them grow into elites among their peers. The team gathered excellent undergraduates and graduates to train their abilities in various aspects especially with the way graduates helping with undergraduates, thus improve the latter’s innovation spirit and practical ability in researches. Since its founding in 2017, the team trained 4 batches of undergraduates with certain basic research competence, making some achievements in academic papers, patents for inventions and subject competitions.

During the review, the team made a detailed report on student cultivation from aspects of the current situation of talents, personnel structure, cultivation characteristics and achievements, as well as future prospects. Prof. Huang Yong’an, when talking about the cultivation of compound and high-quality innovative talents, stressed the importance of the integration of different disciplines, the integration of science and education, and the cooperation of undergraduates and graduates. Huang pointed out that inter-disciplinary fields were usually the ground for major original innovation, thus it was necessary to intensify students’ interests in scientific research and ability in basic disciplines, so as to break down discipline barriers and improve the integration of different disciplines.

It is reported that at present, there are 22 Demonstration Student Innovation Teams managed all by Qiming College of HUST. The Demonstration Student Innovation Team is an excellent example of student innovation teams in HUST. It takes undergraduate training as the core mission, emphasizing active practice, interdisciplinary, scientific and technological innovation, and cooperation among undergraduates and graduates. It implements the innovative talent training mode of value building, ability training, and cultural inheritance, creating an ecological environment for innovation education in engineering, medicine, science, and arts. With its good internal operation mechanism, the Demonstration Student Innovation Team can form the radiation effect of "point-line-plane".
