Geng Shaoning was born in June 1991 and received the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in June 2020. During the Ph.D. program, he was sponsored by the China Scholarship Council for doctoral joint training at the University of Virginia from 2018 to 2019. He engaged in postdoctoral researcher at the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, HUST from May 2020 to July 2023.

He is mainly engaged in the research of high-power laser welding mechanism and process, intelligent laser welding technology. In recent years, he has published 27 papers as the first or corresponding author in Acta Materialia, Journal of Materials Science & Technology, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer and other journals, with more than 900 citations, and the highest citation of a single paper is 138 times. He has published 1 monograph and authorized 12 invention patents. He has presided 6 national programs, such as the sub-tasks of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology High-quality Development Project, Youth Science Foundation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and so on. He is also a senior member of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering, a member of the Specialized Committee on Computer-Aided Welding Engineering of the Welding Society, and a reviewer for internationally recognized journals such as Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, Journal of Manufacturing Processes and Optics & Laser Technology. He was selected for the 8th Young Talent Support Project of China Association for Science and Technology, and won the 11th Shangyin Outstanding Mechanical Doctoral Dissertation Award, outstanding report award of the 24th National Welding Academic Conference, and so on.
