At the invitation of Professor Wu Zhigang of the State Key Lab of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Klas Hjort, professor and director of the Department of Engineering Sciences, Division of Microsystems Technology of Uppsala University visited MSE on April 19, 2017. He delivered a series of international lectures on the theme “Introduction to Scientific Writing” on April 19, April 21, April 25, April 27 respectively. Each lecture lasted at least three hours.
The content of these lectures consists of the following four parts: IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion), writing style and methods of avoiding plagiarism, the techniques, methods, conclusions and summaries of academic tables and graphs, as well as experiments and discussions. To improve the teaching quality, students got assignments and preview tasks before each class. He organized discussions three times and hosted two seminars elaborately, encouraging students to discuss actively and express their views, as well as stimulating their enthusiasm for learning.
Professor Klas Hjort's humorous lecture style and extensive course content are widely acclaimed by students. In the last course, he presented each student a certificate with his signature to show his affirmation to the attitudes and achievements of the students.
It is reported that Prof. Klas Hjort received M.Sc. in Engineering Physics in 1988 and Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1993 at Uppsala University. He became the professor and director of the Division of Microsystems Technology of Uppsala University in 2008. He has long been engaged in the research of advanced microengineering and he is the chief professor of microsystem discipline at Uppsala University. He has published more than 120 papers, owning more than 4000 citations and holding lots of patents. He is a foreign expert and professor of the “Double World-class” Project of HUST and he became a visiting professor of MSE in September 2015.
