Introduction of HUST and MSE

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive research university located in Wuhan, China under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education. It is a participant university of the former “985” Project in China, and also one of the first universities approved under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative, China’s “Excellence Initiative” for institutions of higher education. HUST boasts a full range of academic disciplines, comprising 10 major categories that range from engineering and medicine – HUST’s two most notable pillars of strength – to its fast-growing science and distinctive liberal arts disciplines.

As one of the largest and the most prestigious schools of HUST, the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MSE) attracts a large number of renowned experts and scholars in the field of mechanical manufacturing both at home and abroad, forming its distinctive discipline advantages. MSE now has 7 departments, and among its over 220 faculties, there are 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences/Engineering, 1 Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, over 50 faculties with state-level talent titles and 40 with provincial-level titles. It has 6 state-level research platforms, 1 NSFC innovation group, 2 national teaching groups and 1 innovation group of Ministry of Education.

Over the past 10 years, MSE has undertaken more than 1000 scientific research projects for the nation and enterprises, with its scientific research funds ranked among the top of all HUST schools. MSE has won over 50 national-level prizes for scientific research, teaching and excellent textbooks, etc., and more than 100 provincial-level prizes for science and technology. It has been granted over 700 national invention patents and utility model patents, and its 6 courses were selected as national excellent courses. In 2012, MSE first-level discipline “Mechanical Engineering” tied for the first place in the third round discipline evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education. Carrying out theoretical research and technical application in visual servoing, multi-robot cooperation, man-machine skill transfer, etc..

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Advanced Eectronics Design and Manufacturing or Robotized 3D Printing

Carrying out research on the design theory of flexible electronics, printed display, intelligent sensing, AI chip and other emerging electronic devices and systems, as well as the corresponding technology and equipment principle of micro/nano manufacturing, ink-jet printing, laser processing, IC manufacturing, IC packaging.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Ultraprecision Intelligent Machining

Focusing on the fundamental mechanism, technologies, equipments and measurement methods in the ultra-precision machining process.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Composites Machining

Research on the mechanism of cutting force, heat and deformation of fiber reinforced composites, as well as the preparation process and equipment development of fiber reinforced composites.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Mechanical Design and Theory

Carrying out theoretical research and technical application in electromechanical system dynamics, intelligent design & optimization of special equipment, dynamic design & control of high-end equipment, modern design theories & methods, and vehicle engineering.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 2 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 48 class hours per year. The 2 courses are Engineering Graphics, and Mechanical Design Theory and Methods.

Photoelectric Inspection and Intelligent Sensor

Focusing on the background requirements of IC, electronics, and other advanced manufacturing and integrated process quality detection, equipment and system status information data acquisition and analysis, biological tissue structure imaging and rapid and accurate pathological diagnosis, to carry out research and application of low light level electromechanical intelligent sensing, optical high-resolution rapid detection, image intelligent processing and analysis theory, and technology.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Digital and Intelligent Assembly

Carrying out theoretical research, technical application and prototyping development of digital twin, virtual / augmented / mixed reality, human-robot collaboration and human factors engineering for assembly process, assembly system and assembly quality control during assembly stage of complex products.


Teaching the fundamental undergraduate course Mechanical Design Theory and Methods for over 24 class hours per year.

Design and Manufacture of Optomechatronics MEMS Devices and Intelligent Microsystems

Carrying out basic theoretical research on basic theory, process, manufacturing, and measurement control technology in fields of space exploration optical elements, next-generation semiconductor material processing design, key parts of the microsystem, and design and manufacturing of optical-electro-mechanical MEMS devices. carrying out theoretical research and technical application of microsystem design, laser measurement, point cloud imaging, and intelligent multi-domain navigation in fields of intelligent sensing microsystem represented by detection and perception in space micro-satellite or nano-satellite platforms , ground unmanned robot navigation and obstacle avoidance, and advanced vehicle assisted driving.

Teaching at least 1 course of the 3 fundamental undergraduate courses with over 24 class hours per year. The 3 courses are Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Design Theory and Methods, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology.

Basic art education in Industrial Design

Carrying out research on the teaching theory, method and practice of basic art education for art students in the new engineering environment. Carrying out research on the cultivation of innovative and creative design talents by basic art courses in the new engineering environment

Teaching basic art education courses such as "Design Sketch", "Design Color", "Sculpture and Pottery". Being responsible for the construction of public elective courses for HUST aesthetic education.
