At the invitation of Professor Zhu Zhijuan and Professor Lei Tian of the Department of Industrial Design, TONG JIN KIM, associate professor from Purdue University, visited MSE on May 10, 2017. He delivered a lecture with the topic of “Design for Future User Experience” which is part of the course Ergonomics for undergraduate students. He also took part in the interim review of Undergraduates' Research Opportunity Program (UROP) of MSE.
In the afternoon, during the two and a half hours’ seminar, TONG JIN KIM shared his personal and practical project experience with students and teachers, and guided students about how to explore the future user experience design from the past experience. He started with the process and method of strategic design, analyzed the relationship between advanced technology and design. He pointed out that it was necessary to analyze humans’ potential aspiration to find the direction of the UX design, and that advanced technology was meaningful only when it was applied to design. Then he classified the user experience into four parts: Physital Experience (Physical Activities + Digital Contents), Digilog Experience (Digital Technology + Analog Technology), Informatics Experience (Data Collection + Composition + Communication), and Hypereality Experience (Virtual World + Real World), combined with wearable equipment, smart home and other product design cases. At the end of the lecture, in the Q&A process, TONG JIN KIM answered students’ questions in details.
This lecture is part of the course Ergonomics for sophomore students from the Department of Industrial Design. Teachers include Long Ren, Wu Lei and Ji Qian from the Department of Industrial Design were also invited to attend the event.
In the evening, TONG JIN KIM was invited to serve as a reviewer and attended the UROP midterm review in which he gave several pertinent suggestions to the participants.
This is TONG JIN KIM’s second visit to HUST. Last year, he was invited to attend the 2016 Industrial Design Innovation Academic Forum as an invited speakers. Please find relevant report at http://mse.hust.edu.cn/index.php/index/view/aid/5182.html
