On November 28, 2016, Professor Sooshin Choi, Provost of the College for Creative Studies visited HUST. He was invited by Ji Qian, Lei Tian and Long Ren of the Department of Industrial Design.

In the morning, Professor Wu Bo, Vice Provost of our college, met with the guests. Both sides exchanged views on undergraduate education, industrial design and students' international vision, and reached a consensus on future cooperation. He was accompanied by Liu Xinxiong, professor of Industrial Design Department and Zhang Fen, provost Assistant.

In the afternoon, Professor Sooshin Choi gave a lecture on "Design Yourself before Designing Things" in classroom 412 of the East 12th Teaching Building. He introduced the process of design evolution in detail and analyzed the changes from Pre-Industrial Design to the Integrated Design in depth. Professor Choi believes that the designer should design himself before he designs anything. Designers are conceptus, conductors and connectors. The designer should consider how things look and visually identified, how things are made and what the meaning and impact of things are when they design something. Professor Choi stressed that as a designer, one need to master the knowledge and research analytic approach and user-centered approach and be oneself. Professor Choi explained the four stages about how designers design themselves, which made the students refresh.

In the evening, at Room 305, Liangsheng Building, Qiming Institute, Professor Choi attended the "Making Things Happen Design * CHINA", jointly organized by Qiming Institute and School of Mechanical Science & Engineering, with Teacher Wu lei from Department of Industrial Design, associate professor Fang Hao from China University of Geosciences, Jiang Xiaobo from Hubei University of Technology , user experience design director Zhu Zhengwen from the Fiberhome Communication, etc. They discussed the relationship between design and China from the aspect of humanity, authenticity and education.

Professor Choi first put forward a question: designers are trying to shape the future, but do they really believe what they did will make our world a better palce? He believes that the designer has to understand and respect the dignity of human beings and others creatures. He should design things of his own style rather than blindly imitate. Designers need to open their eyes and embrace new challenges in order to truly make the world a better place.
