Dr. Kevin C. Tseng from the Department of Industrial Design, Chang Gung University Delivered an Academic Lecture

Invited by Professor Long Ren and Professor Chen Xue of the Department of Industrial Design, Dr. Kevin C. Tseng visited MSE, HUST on March 16, 2017. Dr. Kevin C. Tseng is the director of the Department of Industrial Design, Chang Gung University and the associate research fellow of the rehabilitation department, Chang Gung Hospital. He delivered an academic lecture whose title is Sensibility and Rationality: Breaking the Barrier of the Disciplines at Room 101 of the East 12th Building. The audiences included all the students from the Department of Industrial Design and Professor Xiong Rui, the deputy dean of Qiming College, Ni Xiaoning, associate professor of the Health Management Department and Professor Zhong Yanyan of the Children Behavior Center from Huazhong University of Science and Technology Hospital. 

    

His lecture covered the following aspects: multidisciplinary experience, the philosophy of design research, health care and promotion, innovation design, and product design and development. 

Dr. Kevin C. Tseng majored in drawing and then he went to De Montfort University to study product design and development. He got doctor’s degree in 2005 and became a faculty member of Chang Gung University in 2006. He set up the Product Design and Development Lab. and cooperated with many professors with medical background and physicians. He had published several papers collected by SCI. 

Dr. Tseng discussed the cooperation among engineering, medicine and design in his lecture. He told us the comprehension in interdisciplinary cooperations with his own experience, such as how to design medical rehabilitation product and how to make it more user-friendly. 

    

User-centered, he combined engineering, medicine and design to solve complicated problems. Dr. Tseng’s lecture broadened the audiences’ horizons and made us realize the importance and necessity of interdisciplinary cooperation, so that everyone has a deeper understanding of industrial design which will guide and instruct the future development of the Department of Industrial Design, MSE.
