At the invitation of Prof. Hu Youmin, Thomas R. Kurfess visited MSE from March 17 to 25 and participated in the teaching activities of relevant international curriculum. Thomas R. Kurfess is a professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, and a member of the One-thousand Foreign Experts Program of HUST- Wuxi Research Institute.

On March 18, dean of MSE, Academician Ding Han met Professor Kurfess and  conducted in-depth exchanges on mutual cooperations.

Professor Kurfess lectured an internationalization course for undergraduates entitled “Mechatronics Innovative Decisions and Design” in the West 5th Building. During the three-day theory teaching, Professor Kurfess clearly and concisely described common approaches to problem understanding, conceptual design, and project planning and technical communication. He also presented students with examples of quality houses, concept assessment matrices and safety guidelines to help students expand their knowledge and learn how to design a mechatronics model that meets customer needs. His questions aroused the interests of students and he attached great importance to interacting with students.Professor Kurfess's unique lecture style and extensive course content were highly regarded by all the students who took the course.

‍‍‍‍On the afternoon of March 20th , Professor Kurfess also discussed with the teachers and students of the Department of Mechatronic Engineering and the staff of Institute of Electronic Information and Intelligence Technology Institute, HUST-Wuxi Research Institute about "big data", " composite manufacturing "and" virtual reality "and other  cutting-edge technology of advanced manufacturing in Room C303 of the East Building of Advanced Manufacturing.

Professor Kurfess's visit laid the foundation for further substantial research cooperation between MSE and Georgia Institute of Technology.
