2015 International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials was held from May 16th to May 21th in San Diego, California, USA. Six hundred and fourteen delegates from twenty four countries and regions attended this conference. Postdoc Xiao Chen from School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of our university has a presentation titled “Microstructure and mechanical properties of TiC-based cermets prepared by mechanochemical processing”. A kind of new type tool and mould materials TiC-Ni3Al composite and its preparation method has been reported in this conference. This manufacture technique gave rise to a well bonded interface between TiC and Ni3Al. Consequently, this kind of composite was high densification and has good bending strength, which can be applied in practical cutting processing and heat forming of metals. The session chairman of the conference said that the report was novel and the designed composite has a very good application prospect.

Powder metallurgy is one of most important manufacturing technology, and their products include friction products, brake pair, bearings, gear, cutting tools, moulds, super alloy, ferroelectrics, thermoelectric material, and so on. These products are widely used in automobile, equipment manufacturing, metals, aeronautics and astronautics, military industry and electronics industry.
