At the invitation of Prof. Mingxiang Chen, Dr. Yagang Yao from Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) visited School of Mechanical Science & Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on May 15th, 2015, and gave a presentation titled “Controllable growth of carbon nanotube and its applications for thermal management”.

Carbon-based nanomaterial such as carbon nanotube, graphene possess good mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, so they were widely used to prepare novel electronic devices. In this talk, Dr. Yao introduced detailed his researches on the preparation, testing and applications of CNTs during past 10 years, especially focused on the controllable growth of CNT and its applications in electronic packaging. Finally, Dr. Yao shared his experiences about experiment design and paper writing and publishing. More than 20 attendee came from MSE、ME、OE、WNLO and Wuhan University joined this talk.

Dr. Yao received his Ph. D from Peking University in 2009, then he pursed his postdoctoral research in packaging research center (PRC) at GT. He is the winner of the national 100 outstanding doctoral dissertation in 2011. Now his research focused on the controllable growth and chemical synthesis of low dimensional nanomaterials. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in Nat. Mater.、JACS、Adv. Mater.、Nano letters、Adv. Func. Mater.、Nano Energy、J. Phy. Chem.、J. Mater. Chem.、Carbon.

As a part of “Digital Manufacturing and Intelligent Manufacturing Forum”, this visiting was supported by the plan for international cooperation in ME at HUST.
