On October 21, 2017, at the invitation of Professor Chen Rong, Dr. Bi Wenchuan, associate professor of University of Science and Technology of China, visited school of mechanical science and engineering in the afternoon and gave a report on Ultra-thin Two-dimensional Materials: Ideal System Models for Catalytic Research.

In the report, Dr. Bi Wenqun first introduced advantages of ultra-thin two-dimensional materials related to multi-atom clusters, three-dimensional nanomaterials and bulk materials in catalytic applications. Then he highlighted the influence of the ultra-thin two-dimensional materials on the catalytic performances in surface modification, defect engineering, surface doping and organic-inorganic hybridization. Futher explained by Dr. Bi is how the ultra-thin two-dimensional materials significantly improve the electro-catalytic reduction and selectivity of the composite catalyst for carbon dioxide in the monatomic catalytic system.

This lecture provided with new ideas on research areas of energy conversion and storage, and that was appreciated by all the audiences. Teachers and students attended exchanged their views actively. In the end of the report, Dr. Bi conducted an in-depth and enthusiastic discussion on the related issues.
