Nov 14-21, 2017, Professor Jose Manuel Framinan from University of Sevilla, Spain visited MSE and gave a series of special reports at the invitation of Professor Liang Gao, the deputy director of State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology of HUST.
November 16, Prof. Framinan gave an academic report named Deterministic Assembly Scheduling Problems: A Review and Classification of Concurrent-Type Scheduling Models and Solution Procedures. In the report, he analyzed and summarized recent researches on assembly scheduling, and indicated the research trends.
November 17, Prof. Framinan gave a presentation named Matheuristics for Combinatorial Optimisation Problems: An Application to Order Scheduling with Tardiness Objective. First he talked about advantages of matheuristic approach combining mathematical programming and meta-heuristic algorithm, such as getting a better solution within a shorter time. Then he explained the steps of matheuristic approach by showing its application on total tardiness optimization of order scheduling. The effectiveness of this method was demonstrated by comparing the research results with that of other algorithms.
November 21, Prof. Framinan delivered a presentation named Scientific Principles for Management Paradigms: The Rationale of Some Techniques for Production Management. During the presentation, he introduced some management techniques. He emphasized that since different techniques apply to different environments, only getting a deep knowledge into skills of management can we be able to bring about benefits to the maximum.
Prof. Framinan received his Ph.D. degree from University of Sevilla in Spain in 1999, currently serves as a professor at University of Sevilla. His research interests include evolutionary computing, assembly scheduling and production management. Prof. Framinan has published more than 200 articles on international journals and conferences. He is the editor-in-chief of European Journal of Industrial Engineering. He is also an associate editor of Applied Mathematics and Computation, Scheduling of Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal. Moreover, he has been a member of numbers of international academic committees and organized several regular international conferences such as IEEE, ICACT and IESM.
