The 6th East Lake International Forum for Outstanding Overseas Young Scholars, Parallel Session on Mechanical Engineering took place in Advanced Manufacturing Building on Dec. 27-28, 2017. As one of the most important annual academic activities of MSE, the forum brought together 18 outstanding young scholars of diverse academic backgrounds from America, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Belgium, Hong Kong, etc.
On the afternoon of Dec. 27, Professor Shi Tielin, Party Committee Secretary of MSE, gave welcome remarks to the participants, in which he introduced the basics of MSE, its recent achievements and future prospect. He gave credit for MSE talent recruitment, and expressed his wish to promote exchange and cooperation among scholars through this forum and bring in outstanding young scholars. The parallel session was chaired by Professor Wu Zhigang.
The session is comprised of young scholars from University of California, Berkeley, Duke University, University of Ontario Institute pf Technology, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, AdValue Photonics Inc., Brunel University London, Georgia Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore, TRUMPF Photonics Inc., Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Imperial College London, Manufacture using Advanced Powder Processes, University of Leeds, The University of Hong Kong and Osaka University. They delivered excellent presentations covering international frontiers of scientific and technological research and topics heatedly discussed and explored. Hundreds of teachers and students attended the session and had an in-depth exchange with the scholars.
On Dec. 28, scholars were invited to visit MSE experimental center and history museum, and later on exchanged their academic experience in related fields with respective research teams.
Featuring in keynote presentations, seminars and talks, East Lake International Forum for Outstanding Young scholars aims at establishing a sound exchange platform for international young talents in different fields and disciplines. It provides a great opportunity for scholars to explore scientific and technological frontiers and discuss hot topics with their peers. As a good way to broaden participants’ academic horizon and help them find new academic inspiration, it plays an important role in deepening their academic exchange and cooperation and promoting the quality of scientific research. The forum not only expands national and international influence of MSE, but also facilitates MSE talents recruitment agenda by attracting outstanding young scholars to work in MSE.
