Prof. Chen Jihong’s Team Project Selected for 2017 “Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China's Colleges and Universities”

The Science and Technology Commission of Ministry of Education released the 2017 “Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China’s Colleges and Universities” list in Beijing on Dec. 26, 2017 . MSE Prof. Chen Jihong’s team project “Key Technologies and Industrialization of High-performance CNC System” was awarded this honor. It is also the only project that has entered the list in Hubei Province.

         

         

The research team headed by Prof. Chen has long been engaged in the fields of intelligent and networked numerical control technology, robotics and industrialization. This latest research achievement is made by his team, together with Wuhan Huazhong Numerical Control Co., Ltd., Wuhan Golden Age Motor Technology Co., Ltd, etc.

High-performance CNC System is the basis for the development of high-end manufacturing equipment, representing the core competitiveness of the manufacturing industry of a nation. With the support of national major scientific and technological programs and corporations, Prof. Chen’s team developed a series of complete sets of products using High-performance CNC System through the modes of industry-college-institute cooperation. This major breakthrough has won a second award of The National Science and Technology Progress Award and 5 first awards of provincial and ministerial-level, and formalized 13 national and professional standards.  

 

         

 

         

Nearly 100,000 sets of equipment have been applied by over 2,000 corporations and enterprises in such fields as aerospace, energy and power, automobile and auto parts, 3C manufacturing, machine tools, and others that require high-end numerical control equipment and weapons and military supplies. This technology provides vital technical safeguards for national high-end CNC equipment to achieve independence. According to China Machinery Industry Federation, its function, performance and reliability have reached world level and therefore it can be used to replace the imported. In the field of aerospace manufacturing, this domestically-developed high-end CNC system is regarded as a major historic breakthrough.  

The “Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China’s Colleges and Universities” has been launched by Science and Technology Commission of Ministry of Education since 1998. Since the beginning, it has been an important way to spread major scientific and technological progresses and innovations achieved by China’s universities and colleges. It plays an active role in elevating the integral scientific quality of universities to a higher level and enhancing their technological innovation. It is an honor of great social influence and reputation.
