Prof. Klas Hjort from Uppsala University Visited MSE

On April 18,Prof. Klas Hjort, Head of the Microsystem Technology (MST) program at Uppsala University, visited School of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MSE) at the invitation of Prof. Wu Zhigang at the State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, MSE. He delivered a series lectures entitled “Introduction to Scientific Writing” on April 18/20/23/24, 2018, with each lecture lasted for at least three hours.

The intense short course is to introduce PhD students in how to write scientific English and scientific articles. It includes four meetings: How to avoid plagiarism, Tables and Figures, Methods, Results and Conclusion, and Discussion on Experiments. In order to improve the quality of teaching, students were required to finish their homework and preview tasks before each lecture. In class, he organized three seminars and two workshops. He also encouraged students to express their ideas actively, which stimulated students’ enthusiasm for learning.

Prof. Klas Hjort’s humorous teaching style and rich curriculum content are widely praised by students. In the last meeting, he presented a course certificate to his students. The certificate was signed by him as a confirmation of their good learning attitude and achievements throughout the course.

 

An Introduction of Prof. Klas Hjort

Klas Hjort is a professor and Head of Microsystems Technology (MST) program at Uppsala University. He is an expert in advanced microengineering. He has been a guest professor of MSE, HUST since 2015. He has published more than 130 scientific journal articles and is the holder of several patents. Google Scholar presents more than 4,000 citations and an h-index of 32. From 2010 to 2013, he was a guest professor of the Finnish Distinguished professor Program.
