On November 24, the awards list for the 17th “Huawei Cup” China Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) was announced. The team from the State Key Lab, MSE, with the guidance of Prof. Gao Liang and Prof. Li Xinyu, won the National First Prize. MS’ 19 students Han Dong, Li Wangming and Zhang Yun are members of the team.
The China Postgraduate MCM is one of the theme competitions of the "China Postgraduate Innovation & Practice Competitions" jointly sponsored by the Degree and Postgraduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education and the Children & Youth Science Center of China Association of Science and Technology. It is the highest level, the largest scale and the most influential national postgraduate discipline competition in China, which is accessible to all postgraduate students nationwide. Basing on physics and taking mathematics as the method, the competition solves practical problems by establishing mathematical models, which is of great challenge, so the competition has attracted more and more attention of colleges and universities.
In total, 14436 teams from 456 postgraduate institutions participated in the competition. 188 teams won the First Prize (award-winning rate 1.3%), 1926 the Second Prize (13.3%) and 2896 the Third Prize (20%). The total number of award-winning teams was 5010, with the total award-winning rate 34.6%.
