On the morning of May 14th, the 3rd HUST Dragon Boat Friendship Race was held on Yujia Lake. Around 100 Chinese and foreign students from 19 colleges and 37 countries formed 6 teams (Cattle, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Horse and Sheep Team), and had a fascinating race on water. HUST leaders including You Zheng, Ma Jianhui, Chen Jianguo and Liang Qian were present to add the finishing touches on dragon boats’ eyes, and MSE leader Xu Jianfeng was present to give awards to the winning teams.
During registration stage, nearly 20 MSE Chinese and foreign students signed up actively and trained really hard. In the competition, MSE Horse Team raced bravely on water spurting for the final line. In the end, MSE won the ‘Outstanding Organization Award’ and ‘Excellence Award’, showing the dragon boat spirit of ‘win-win cooperation and striving for the top’!
After the competition, Muhammad Anis Fahrudin (a Chinese-taught undergraduate international student of 2020) from Indonesia said that he was amazed by the charm of sports and traditional Chinese culture. Oliver Ndibualonji Luboya (an English-taught undergraduate international student of 2020) from the Democratic Republic of the Congo said that the race provided him with a chance to get to know more Chinese and foreign friends, and to enjoy the friendly atmosphere in China. Rosendo Castellon Toichoa (a Chinese-taught undergraduate international student of 2020) from Equatorial Guinea said that he couldn’t wait to participate again next year to have more fun in dragon boat racing!
The 3rd HUST Dragon Boat Friendship Race has made Chinese traditional culture more popular among international students, and contributed to the friendly and international atmosphere in MSE and HUST!
