The 8th International Symposium of Flexible & Stretchable Electronics 2024 (ISFSE 2024) was successfully held at the Ramada Optics Valley Hotel in Wuhan from September 26 to 28, 2024. This symposium was hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing Equipment and Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and co-organized by Southern University of Science and Technology and Soft Science journal. Professor Huang YongAn from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Guo Chuanfei from Southern University of Science and Technology, and Professor Wu Zhigang from Huazhong University of Science and Technology jointly served as the chairman of the symposium. More than 500 experts and scholars in the field of flexible electronics from the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao and other countries and regions gathered in Wuhan, including 12 overseas professors, 39 national leading talents and overseas experts, as well as 78 national young talents and overseas experts, contributing the total of 233 reports.
The symposium was rich in contents and diverse in forms, including the opening ceremony, conference reports, sub-venue reports, poster presentations, Soft Science Youth Editorial Board, Flexible Electronic Teaching and Textbook Seminar, as well as a welcome dinner and academic awards. There were 8 themes of the sub-forum topics in the symposium, include flexible electronic materials and devices, flexible structures and device design, flexible electronic integrated manufacturing technology, flexible electronic skin technology, flexible bioelectronic technology, flexible energy electronic technology, flexible electronics youth academic forum, and flexible electronics international academic forum.
On the morning of September 27, the opening ceremony of the symposium was presided over by Professor Guo Chuanfei of Southern University of Science and Technology, chairman of the symposium. Professor Zhang Yonghui, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, delivered a welcome speech, on the behalf of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, extended a warm welcome to all the experts and scholars who participated in this international symposium of flexible & stretchable electronics, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the experts and scholars who have always cared about and supported the development of the laboratory, and wished the symposium a complete success. Professor Wu Zhigang, chairman of the conference and professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers introducing the basic situation of the laboratory, reviewing the history of the ISFSE conference, and confirming that this symposium will promote the development and application of flexible electronic technology through high-level academic exchanges and cutting-edge reports. Professor Guo Chuanfei and Professor Wu Zhigang presided over the conference report. On the evening of September 27, Professor Huang Yongan from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Professor Zhang Haixia from Peking University co-presided over the welcome dinner and award ceremony. Moreover, on the afternoon of the September 26, Professor Huang Yongan organized a youth editorial board as the chief editor of the Soft Science journal. Subsequently, on the afternoon of the 28th, Professor Huang Yongan initiated a seminar on flexible electronic teaching and textbook.
Academician Bao Zhenan from Stanford University, Academician Wang Zhonglin from Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Systems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yin Zhouping from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Researcher Li Runwei from Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Li Zhengguo from National University of Singapore made speeches in turn. Academician Bao Zhenan gave a report entitled "Skin-Inspired Organic Electronics", Academician Wang Zhonglin made a report entitled "Triboelectric nanogenerators for sustainable energy and systems", and Professor Yin Zhouping delivered a report entitled "Flexible Hybrid Electronics". Manufacturing Technology and Equipment", Prof. Li Runwei (represented by Prof. Liu Yiwei ) made a report entitled "Elastic Magnetoelectric Functional Materials and Elastic Stress/Strain Sensors", and Prof. Li Zhengguo gave a report entitled "Progress in AI Sensors".

In addition, 70 young scholars made oral reports, 34 young researchers made youth academic forum reports. And then， the active and enthusiastic discussions and exchanges in various forms such as academic poster display and exchange were carried out. All of the participants actively participated in the display and evaluation of this poster. In the end, 6 Best Youth Forum Report Awards were selected through scoring by the experts, and 6 Best Poster Awards were selected through collective voting.
The International Symposium of Flexible & Stretchable Electronics (ISFSE) was initiated by Huazhong University of Science and Technology at the very beginning, which has been successfully held for 8 sessions, focusing on academic frontier hot spots, returning to academic essence, with free and unrestrained forms. Now it has become one of the most influential academic conferences in the field of flexible & stretchable electronics and its derivatives, providing a high-level research results exchange platform for well-known experts, scholars and students, highlighting the frontier, innovation and application of flexible electronics research direction, improving the level of basic scientific research in China, making an important contribution to the application of advanced electronic technology.
