On October 20, 2024, the Engineering Conference on Intelligent Manufacturing was held in Wuhan. The conference was hosted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST), Higher Education Press, and the Center for Strategic Studies of Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), and co-organized by the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST. Experts and scholars in the field of intelligent manufacturing from China and abroad gathered to discuss cutting-edge technologies in the field of intelligent manufacturing aiming to boost the development of new productive forces in China and promote the high-end, intelligent, and green development of the global manufacturing industry.
Zhou Ji, fellow of CAE, delivered the opening speech. He said “Intelligent manufacturing is the core technology of the fourth industrial revolution, it enables human wisdom and machine intelligence to be fully utilized and grow together in a mutually inspiring manner. It is the main technological path to realize the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. Intelligent manufacturing is also a complex system engineering. Promoting international collaborations in the field of intelligent manufacturing is an irresistable trend and what industrial development requires.”
The conference was co-chaired by Professor Li Peigen(Fellow of CAE)and Professor Shen Weiming(Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering), and included 7 keynote speeches and 12 invited presentations. During the conference, Professor Gao Liang, the vice president of HUST, summarized the progress, hot topics, and future development trends of shop scheduling in intelligent manufacturing in his presentation on "Shop Scheduling Theory and Methods." Professor Shen Weiming, explored the combined application of Multi-agent Systems (MAS) and Digital Twins technology in his report titled "Agents Meet Digital Twins (Agent-based Digital Twins)."
Leading experts from across the world gave presentations, shared their views on the development of the intelligent manufacturing field and had in-depth discussions on how artificial intelligence technology can promote the future development of the manufacturing industry.
Professor Zhou Ji delivered the closing remarks for the conference. He said that the successful holding of this conference was a milestone in international cooperation in the field of intelligent manufacturing. It not only showcased the latest research achievements in intelligent manufacturing but also provided new ideas for future research directions and cooperation models.
