From November 18th to 19th, the 9th Chinese-German Workshop on "Industrial Metaverse" was held at the headquarters of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (referred to as “acatech”). HUST-MSE experts attended the workshop and delivered academic presentations. The experts included Prof. Li Peigen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (referred to as CAE), Prof. Chen Xuedong, Academician of CAE, Prof. Shen Weiming, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Prof. Chen Rong, Vice Dean of MSE.
The workshop was co-hosted by CAE and acatech, with HUST academician Li Peigen served as the lead, and Academician Shen Weiming served as the co-lead. Experts from universities, research institutes, and enterprises in both China and Germany gathered in Munich to exchange the latest research and application practices in the field of Industrial Metaverse, and in-depth discussions on the opportunities and challenges faced by the intelligent transformation of the industry.

On the morning of Nov. 18th, the workshop was officially launched with opening remarks from Jan Wörner, Chairman of the acatech, and Wang Chen, Vice President of CAE. Both of them articulated the vision and determination for universities and research institutions from both sides to enhance cooperation in the realm of the industrial metaverse, aiming to better facilitate the digital and intelligent transformation of industries in both countries. Academician Jan Wörner presented a keynote titled "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins," while Academician Li Peigen delivered a keynote titled " AI-enabled Smart Factory." The participants actively engaged in idea exchanges, delving deeply into the content of the keynotes and exploring future directions for cooperation.

During the workshop, HUST-MSE experts introduced HUST and MSE to acatech, and engaged in discussions with Ms. Karen Wagner, the head of international relations at the acatech office, regarding strengthening cooperation and exchange between MSE and the German side. Academician Li Peigen and Vice Dean Chen Rong presented her with an MSE souvenir. The souvenir was a bookmark that embodies the "STAR Spirit" (Striving, Teamwork, Agility, Responsibility) of MSE, based on the original handwriting inscription by Academician Li Peigen. As a foreign affairs souvenir of MSE, it is designed to spread the culture of MSE and further expand our external publicity influence.

In the afternoon of Nov. 18th, the workshop was divided into two sessions: "Industrial Metaverse Use Cases in Germany" of Session One and "Industrial Metaverse in China" of Session Two. Session One was moderated by Professor Michael Dowling, Academician of acatech and Chairman of MÜNCHNER KREIS. Session Two was moderated by Academician Shen Weiming from MSE. Experts and scholars from HUST, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Dalian University of Technology, Technical University of Munich, RWTH Aachen University, Siemens Group, and other universities and institutions made presentations, introducing their research results in the fields of industrial metaverse, digital twins, intelligent manufacturing, and deeply discussing the possibilities for cooperation. Academician Chen Xuedong of MSE presented an academic presentation titled "Motion Planning and Control of Multi-Legged Walking Robots".

Vice President Zhang Yonghui of HUST attended the workshop and delivered remarks. He stated that the workshop will enhance mutual trust and build a stronger consensus between the two sides. He also mentioned that HUST will continue to utilize its strengths and traditions to make contributions to practical Chinese-German cooperation and global sustainable development.
During the workshop, MSE experts also had in-depth exchanges with several Academicians from acatech and extended invitations to them to visit MSE next year. The workshop has laid a more solid foundation for future cooperation at a higher level and on a broader scale between the two sides.

On the morning of 19th, Chinese experts visited the SAP Labs Munich and the Leibniz Supercomputing Center. The two sides conducted extensive and in-depth discussions and exchanges on issues such as the in-depth integration of industry, academia and research, and quantum computing.
